Yes” or “No” Assessment (100pts)
The content of the book report will be evaluated on accuracy, readability (including grammar and spelling), and thoroughness of response. See the full grading rubric for the book report inside the Evaluations section of the Syllabus. Be sure to include BOTH THE QUESTIONS and your responses in the report! Pay attention to the point allocation for each section.
- Begin the book report with a cover sheet (2 pts)
- According to the book, in general, what things should we be saying “yes” to and why? (5 pts)
- According to the book, in general, what things should we be saying “no” to and why? (5 pts)
- What is THE HIKE and what is its purpose? (5 pts)
- What are “informed options?” (5 pts)
- Who or what should be your own best mentor in making decisions and why? (3 pts)
- “Most of us set out to go and get what we want. Usually it is because we do not know what we need. So we go off in the wrong direction.”
Explain the meaning of this quote from the book. (5 pts)
- Now provide an example of how this has happened in your own life. Be specific and provide the “whole story.” (10 pts)
- Analyze how you could have made a BETTER decision than you did using the steps in the book as a guide. Be specific and detailed in your approach. (10 pts)
- “There once was a bright young man who was looking for a way to make good decisions-to have more success and less stress in his life.”
This young man is the main character in the book. Trace him through the story according to EACH person he comes into contact with. First list the name of the person and then explain what decision making advice that person contributed to the young man. Do this in ORDER. Some of the characters may appear more than once, so list them again along with their contribution as you come to them in the book. (25 pts)
- Now go back through the list above and for EACH item, give an example of a situation in your own life where something similar has happened to you and how you might do it differently according to the expert’s advice. (25 pts)
