Write a check-in post s that engages with an idea/theme/topic from this class we have already covered that you find compelling. This post will allow you to show your insights and thought process as you engage with, expand upon, question, and grapple with the course material as you think about your topic for the Thematic Narrative bibliography and final essay.
You must provide a thesis statement, examples and direct quotations from course readings you intend to use, analysis of how those examples and direct quotations support the idea/theme/topic you are considering, and a conclusion sentence. Refer to the resources, particularly the powerpoint, from 8/27 to help you.
Questions that will help guide you as you construct your thesis statement are: why are you interested in thisidea/theme/topic? Why do you think this idea/theme/topicis important, and how might it continue to be important moving forward in this course? What readings have we done that touch on this idea/theme/topic? How do the readings address this idea/theme/topic?
I will provide feedback on the following: do you have a thesis, examples, evidence, analysis, and a conclusion? Do you provide an argument in your thesis, or is it more of a factual statement? Is the evidence you are looking at appropriate and relevant to your thesis? Do you properly quote and cite the sources, and do you use footnotes properly? Is your writing clean, clear, and concise? Does your intended idea/theme/topic make sense? Is it too broad? Is it too narrow?
Keep in mind that these Check-In Posts will help you practice historical writing, particularly crafting an argument, using evidence in the form of direct quotations, and analysis of this evidence for the final Thematic Narrative Annotated Bibliography and Essay.
