There is a tendency to associate volunteers exclusively with nonprofit organizations; however, many for-profit entities capitalize on volunteer participation.  A nonprofit environment such as a local church will depend on volunteer engagement to provide service and intervention to its supporters.  In addition, volunteer participation can offset expenses in order to meet an annual budget. The history of volunteers intersects greatly with both the insignificant and most notable Bible men and women throughout Scripture. Even Jesus Christ understood their value and sought to mobilize a volunteer staff.
