Assessment requirement – A written assignment in the form of a literature review that:
– Identify a problem/issue or clear case for a potential research
– Outline concise, ‘good’ and researchable question/s

Description of the task
As a starting point to developing a potential research proposal, in this first task students are to submit a written assignment in the form of a Literature Review.
In preparing for this task students should read Chapter 2 of Somekh and Lewin (2011). Students may find chapter 6 of O’Toole & Beckett (2010) a useful reference as well as pages 121-22 of Cohen et al (2011). The purpose of this initial survey is to demonstrate a working knowledge of relevant literature related to a particular field. In writing up this task, you will outline some of the key ideas/issues/themes relevant to your identified research question. In doing so, there should be clear evidence of some critical engagement with relevant literature in the field of your research. A literature review should consist of a coherent and convincing argument supported by a systemic review and critical evaluation of ideas (rather than a descriptive list of ideas).
The submitted task will:
– Identify a problem/issue or clear case for a potential research project;
– Outline concise ‘good’ and researchable question/s (see O’Toole and Beckeet p 89-90);
– Define key specialist terms; and
– Critically review relevant theoretical and research literature related to the points above. Please refer to Australian cases.
Suggestions from the lecturer:
You need to develop it further into one or several researchable questions.
What do you mean by “blended learning”??
What do you mean by “success”? What are the things will indicate that it is successful? How would you know whether it is successful?
Think of these questions and refer to some relevant literature might help you to come up with a couple of researchable questions which will then become the focus for your assignment.
The assignment must have educational connection.
Criteria
- The paper is free from spelling, grammatical and typographical errors and is presented in accordance with the required format, that is, it meets the required length and academic ‘rules’ and conventions.
- The literature review is developed with a clear purpose, logical structure and argument.
- The title and body of the paper incorporates the specification of a particular research question including a statement of the problem or question to be investigated, and sub-problems or related questions, as relevant.
- The paper includes the definition of all key terms and, if appropriate, any hypotheses which the study is to address.
- The paper present critical and analytical arguments that address relevant theory, previous research on a question, disagreements among the findings of previous studies, methodological faults in the studies reported, etc.
Notes to writer
- You can edit the title if it is appropriate, as long as the literature review topic is on ‘blended learning’
- Please only refer to Australian examples.
- It is important the paper meets the criteria stated above.
Thanks a lot!
