Title of Research Dissertation:
The Logistics challenges in landlocked countries.
Case Study: A closer look at the Zambian Copper Mining Industry
The challenges of logistics for organisations in the mining industry are unique and complex particularly when they are located in a landlocked country like Zambia. Zambia is a landlocked country located in Southern Africa and the mining industry accounts for the biggest share of its economy. Logistical activities have always been vital to the Zambian copper mining industry from extraction of ore to delivery including the inbound and outbound moves of essential mining equipment and spare parts.
Aim:
To explore the logistics constraints facing the mining industries in landlocked countries, using Zambia as a case study.
Objectives:
• To explore the logistics of the Zambian copper mining industry in a landlocked scenario.
• To determine the logistics constraints faced by the Zambian copper mining industry.
• To critically review the copper mining industry of Zambia including outlining the historical development.
• To establish a model that would minimise the logistics bottlenecks in the copper mining industry of Zambia.
