Part 1:

Locate the graph in Chapter 3 p106: Non-rational appeals. Review the context of the exercise by reviewing the preceding pages and section.  Complete the chart by naming the emotion at play in the non-rational appeal and offering a 2-3 sentence logical counter to it. You can number them 1,2,3.
Part 3:
Review an example/model and then write your own summary
Context and preparation:
First, read through Susan’s Jacoby article “A First Amendment Junkie”  (56-59).
Next, examine the author’s summary and notice how she composes it. Notice how the textbook writer does not use Jacoby’s exact words or phrases in her summary. The sections preceding the reading on summarizing, paraphrasing and patch-writing will be helpful to you as a reference.  (Hint: you Grab your dictionary/thesaurus.) Review the author’s critical summary. Consider the differences between the two, including length, tone, word choice etc.
