Assignment 2    Academic Essay (60%)

 

Aim     Write a crisis plan to demonstrate your understanding of how Public Relations is involved in crisis management and the most effective methods of implementing this. Your plan should be approximately 3,000 words in length (excluding bibliography & appendices).

 

Learning outcomes    On completion of this assignment you should be able to:

1)  Identify and analyse risks and issues faced by particular organisations.

2)  Discuss and apply the principles of crisis planning.

3)  Assess ethical issues and social responsibility.

 

Task     Write a crisis plan on the following topic:

1)   Study an environmental scan you have produced for UCLan and identify a fictitious but potentially damaging crisis for the organisation.

2)  Agree the crisis with your tutor and discuss the impact it

would have on your chosen organisation.

3)     How would you handle the issue? Explore the strategies and tactics you would use to manage the situation effectively. Apply concepts, principles and theories commonly  used in Crisis Management to illustrate your findings.

 

Credit will be given for the following:

  i) Identification and discussion of key issues
Marking ii)

iii)

Discuss and apply the principles of crisis planning.

Mature and critical engagement with the issues

 

Submitting work      Completed work should be submitted electronically using Turnitin.

Students should also submit work in Huw Evans’ assignment locker at the Cyber cafe in the Greenbank building. Each piece of work should include a complete bibliography in LBS style.

 

 

 

Deadline   3pm on Tuesday, April 14th, 2015.

 

Extensions         Extensions are available in cases of exceptional extenuating circumstances. If you need to apply for an extension you need written authority from the Module leader, Huw Evans and Division leader, Alison Lucas, to submit your assignment after this deadline, otherwise it will be penalised in accordance witb University regulations.
