Probability and Sampling Distributions
Flip a coin 20 times and record the number of heads and the number of tails. Using your experiment, what is the probability of obtaining tails? Experimental Probability: P(tails) = ____/20 = ______ % What is the theoretical probability of obtaining tails? Compare your experimental probability to the theoretical probability. If the probabilities are different, which probability can be trusted, if any, and why? We often use the words probability, chance, likelihood, and risk interchangeably, and all of these words leave some room for uncertainty. Is there room for uncertainty in mathematics? Or, is probability in fact, certain? Do you think that the words probability and chance can be used interchangeably, or do these words have different meanings? Many Christians believe that nothing happens by chance. Do you agree or disagree? Do you think the concepts of probability and/or chance are contradictory to a Christian worldview? Why or why not?
