Management
Post an executive summary of your Comprehensive Project in the body of a post in this Discussion Board (do not use attachments). An executive summary is a 1-page document that outlines the purpose, process, findings, discussion, and findings of a report that is submitted to management. Chief executive officers (CEOs) often read and assess executive summaries before deciding to read entire reports, so this must be a high-quality narrative that demonstrates the significance of the work that is being undertaken, the objectivity of research and analysis underpinning the report, and the credibility of the resulting conclusions.
Please review the executive summaries of other students, and provide an objective assessment and constructive feedback that will help strengthen the effectiveness of their efforts and the quality of their finished reports.
In the unit 4 DB you will be asked to post an executive summary (ES) of the unit 5 GP. How can you provide a summary of a project you have not yet completed?
You are correct that without completing the unit 5 assignment it is difficult to provide a comprehensive ES. The ES, of course, should be the last thing in your project completed, but placed in the beginning of your paper. Since we have this requirement, as I stated in the chat, we need to do some forecasting to complete the ES.
You should get together with your group to develop this ES of your GP. Like the unit 3 DB outline of your GP, I will accept a group ES, as long as it was developed by your group and is so stated in the ES itself. Do not worry about the similarity score increase—your notation that this is a group ES absolves you of any academic integrity issue. However, each member of the group and of the class must post an ES, so if you are doing a group ES, each of you must post it.
Remember an ES tells several things. First, it tells what you are going to do; that part is doable. The assignment tells you ToolsCorp is going global, we have discussed the fact that a manufacturer will most often go into manufacturing when they expand overseas. Your group should have already decided where you are going and to what level of involvement you will enter there.
Second, an ES tells you how you are going to do it. This too is doable; this is where you tell us how you will go about researching and analyzing the various markets and countries overseas to determine the best location for ToolsCorp’s global expansion and how you will determine the level of involvement there. This is the beginning of your strategies’ implementation plans of HOW you are going to expand globally.
Third, an ES tells what you did. Here is where it starts to get into forecasting. I recommend you tell us what you think will be done based on the limited research and analysis you have completed in the five weeks since your group should have started work on the project.
Fourth, an ES tells us what you found. Here it becomes forecasting. This area is in great part dependent upon the completion of your research and analysis, so I recommend you use the research completed so far—take note, you were to begin work on this project in unit 2, so by the second week of unit 4, you should have five weeks of work into the project.
Finally, an ES gives us your recommendation. This may not be as difficult as it seems at the onset. From your current research and your knowledge of global business, you must have some idea the type of issues, both advantageous and disadvantageous, that ToolsCorp will encounter. Since you should have already decided the location and involvement of ToolsCorp and you should be aware of the industry and competition ToolsCorp will encounter, you should have a pretty good idea. So, give us that recommendation with the caveat that it will be finalized in unit 5 GP.
