Obstructing national issues

In this chapter we learned about the strenghts and weaknesses of our American Federalism system. One
of the weaknesses is that local and state leaders can obstruct action on national issues. Some people feel that Texas leaders are doing this with the pandemic. Governor Greg Abbott’s refusal to allow local governments to institute mask or vaccine mandates means that we may have to be in the pandemic longer and
certainly it goes against federal inititatives to institute vaccine and mask mandates in some arenas. Using what you learned in this chapter about Federalism, discuss how Governor Greg Abbot’s actions are or are not obstructing national policy issues concerning the Covid-19 pandemic.
