The textbook makes a distinction between marginal practitioners and limited practitioners in the field of chiropractics. Within these two categories, one is considered to have a low social status and the other a high social status. Should such distinctions be applied to the profession? A distinction could likely be made between someone who has and uses some skills that are involved in chiropractic and someone who is actually in a chiropractic practice as dedicated practitioner. Someone who uses a few chiropractic techniques in say massage therapy or as a physical trainer would not be seen as a genuine practitioner and would very likely be marginalized under that distinction. A nurse practitioner and or DO or MD who use chiropractic technique in specific treatment regimens would likely be seen as a limited practitioner however, the designations as a medical practitioner would very likely give them a higher social standing and…
