Reflection is the individual equivalent of review and evaluation and is an essential component of the learning process. The subject has a considerable applied component which requires students to practice and trial theories, ideas and tools learned in class.
This Assessment takes this one step further. During the semester students are required to select FIVE topics from the class activities and reflect on how this topic, currently or in the future, impacts their life, career, studies, family or personal relationships. These five learning experiences are from throughout the semester. Students are required to prepare and submit an individual Learning Journal and Report consisting of the following sections:
1. Learning Events
In this section the student will complete three Learning Journals of 500 words each in length. The class sessions will be a good source of events however the MGX5992 Moodle site also has many other sources of information, surveys, links to video clips and talks that will be of personal interest or significance to students. However the majority of the events should relate to concepts and issues covered in the unit, eg. strengths, components of PSYCAP, Mindfulness, Mindset, Self Talk, tools to increase Positive Emotions and so on.
The structure and format of each entry is up to the individual, however many students find using a more structured approach with sub headings very helpful, such as those listed below. All events should be titled and dated.
Each Learning Journal should include: ₋ Title of the event and date ₋ A brief description of the event/situation and context ₋ Your actions and reactions ₋ Brief analysis and discussion including initial and perhaps later reflections on the ₋ event ₋ Your learning and action implications ₋ Links to theory (dot points okay for this section only), eg name of theorist or theory that the Learning Journal refers to.
Learning Journals should reflect a personal element and can be written in the first person.

2. Summary and Exploration
Prepare an additional two journals that are not from the same events as in Section 1 and discuss each of them in more detail using current literature and your own experience to analyse firstly your current reality. Think about the following: ₋ Is this journal topic something that you are currently doing well? ₋ Have done well in the past? ₋ Would like to incorporate more of into your life in the future? ₋ Make certain you analyse both what you do well and what you may need to improve. Do NOT just focus on the negative. ₋ Do these results and your experiences fit with what the literature says?
The detailed analysis of these two journals should be about 1000 words each incorporating at least 10 academic references.
Just to be clear, you will be writing five journals in total, three short ones for Section 1 and two longer ones for Section 2.
3. Vision for the Future
Based on your analysis in Section 2 what do you see your future looking like if these items were incorporated? Describe it in some detail. The time frame should not be too short but also not too far into the future either. Somewhere between 12 months and three years is about right. You might like to sit back and dream about what your future would look like with these changes in place or you may have already identified where you will be.
Have a bit of fun putting it into words. This section could be about 500 words in total. Think of this as where you would like to end up with this item, your intention or goal has been achieved. What does this look like?
4. Action Plans
How are you going to get there? What specifically are you going to do? This section outlines how you will go about developing / bridging the identified areas in Section 2. The two action plans should incorporate your specific goals or intentions as outlined in Section 3, what you expect to achieve, time frames, how you will assess your improvements / changes and necessary resources. Where necessary the plan should be supported by appropriate literature.
Each action plan should be about one page in length and a tabular format is acceptable.
Note, this is the section that students generally do poorly. Ensure that you have answered When, Where and How in your written response or table. BE SPECIFIC.
Learning objectives assessed: 1. Develop skills of self-awareness, acceptance and effective goal setting 2. Enhance skills in identifying and developing personal strengths, efficacy, positive thinking and self talk, change, optimism and resiliency 3. Developing skill in applying all concepts to achieve enhanced individual, team, organisational and community success.

Penalties for late lodgment: Students should expect 1 mark to be deducted from the final mark for every day that an assignment is late. If students anticipate that their assignments will be late, discuss the possibility of a late submission with your Lecturer.
Assessment coversheet: Students should use the faculty assignment cover sheet for all submitted work. This should be attached to the front of your assignment.
Additional information: IMPORTANT ₋ Each page of the document should have the name and student number of the author as well as a page number. ₋ All writing must be double spaced. ₋ Where possible print double sided.
Assessments must show a high standard of presentation. Marks will be deducted for unprofessional presentation including lack of appropriate referencing, poor grammar, spelling, lack of paragraphs and punctuation. Carefully PROOF READ your documents before submission. Also remember to use spell check.
Documents should be in typed font, preferably no smaller than 10 point. Remember to leave room for margins and comments.
Stay away from plastic folders, a simple staple is best.
This report, as all your work, MUST show evidence of your understanding of the relevant theories, literature and frameworks, and be referenced correctly, using the Harvard or Author- date approach outlined in the Student Q Manual. At the Graduate level it is expected that you will always attempt to integrate “Relevant theory and action.” Remember, “there is nothing so practical as a good theory”. Referencing of literature/resources utilised is essential.
Try and stay away from lots of quotes, discussion are easier to read and comprehend if the theory is incorporated rather than just ‘plonked in’ via quotes.
Students who feel that they may need extra assistance with their writing / study skills should discuss this issue with their Lecturer, or directly with the Library staff
