MAKE UP SCHOOL POLICY

MAKE UP SCHOOL POLICY

i. The policy will not be included as part of the required page limit for your argument in support of the policy. The purpose of requiring you to write a broad outline of the policy is merely so that I understand the parameters or your policy and can therefore better understand your argument in support of it.

4. Consider as part of your policy proposal, behavior that occurs on or off school property, using school equipment (computers, printers etc.) or equipment that is used off school property.

PART II – Value 5% of Final Grade
Develop an argument that supports your policy.
As your Reasoning text suggests taking a position ought to be more than merely being for or against something. Taking a position ought to include a consideration of various options, the belief system that supports those options and evidence upon which to ground those beliefs.
In question format, identify the stases that will guide your argument. In other words, having taken a position, there are certain issues (in the form of stases) that you must address. What are those issues? What questions will you pose to yourself as you draft your opinion piece?

1. Conjecture:
a. What is the exigence here?
b. What are the facts that exist that make this an issue an issue of importance?
c. What is the history?
2. Definition
a. How do you define the issue?
b. What are the parameters of the problem?
3. Consequence
a. How and why did this problem arise?
b. What is the effect of the state of affairs as you have outlined them in the stases of conjecture and definition?
4. Value
a. What are the end goals?
b. Are there values in conflict?
c. How do you resolve the conflict?
d. What is of greater importance: the end goals or the means used to achieve them?
