PART ONE:

Technical terms and sequence analysis (400 words, 40%) Instructions Once you’ve selected your ONE sequence, you must identify and describe TWO key elements each of mise-en- scène, cinematography, editing and sound (for a total of EIGHT elements) and analyse their significance in the sequence. Sound Number each of your points consecutively from 1 and 2 under the first heading “A. Mise-en- scène” to 7 and 8 under the final heading “D. Sound”. Write full, complete sentences. Interpreting the sequence in context (600 words, 60%) Instructions Write a short essay (600 words) in response to the following question: Taking into account the different formal elements that you’ve already analysed, how does the sequence advance the story and themes of the film/television episode as a whole? Part Two should be presented like a short essay with a brief introduction and a short conclusion (2-3 sentences each). References are not required and as already noted above you will be marked down for citing the work of others.
