Case Study 1: Cyber Café
This is a group project that will be due on February 2nd. Mainly this assignment will consist of filling out project documentation for the case study. You will use sample templates provided with your textbook. In case other templates are needed, I will provide them to you. This assignment will mimic a real-life situation to give students practical project management knowledge. As a guide students should review the case study 1 in the textbook (page 89).

Submission requirements:
Each group will submit a project report that will include all documents necessary to manage this project from start to finish. The group will decide on the appropriate document templates to use.
Project Purpose:
Provide a location for students to meet and network utilizing social networking and technology. This will increase the use and awareness of technology as a learning tool, increase social interaction and provide a location that is safe and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, while school is in session.
Project Description:
- Create a physical meeting place where face-to-face and electronic social networking can happen around the clock. Include a cyber bar for electronic data exchange, downloads, podcasts, charging stations and technology tutoring.
- This location will be a café environment with couches, chairs, and conversation areas. It will provide various types of non-alcoholic beverages and snacks.
- The environment and décor should be student and technology centric.
The instructor will be representing the sponsor and champion for this project. Normally the project manager will interview some stakeholders (the project sponsor, the project champion, the users’ representative) and the supervisor to collect the requirements. In interest of time, the project requirements have been already established.
Project Requirements:
The old bookstore will be utilized and remodeled to accommodate the Wired Café that:
- Is equipped with the most up-to-date technology.
- Has an IT-tutoring center on site.
- Has a coffee bar that serves coffee, tea, and other non-alcoholic beverages and light snacks..
- Has a Technology center with the following requirements:
- Compatibility with Mac and PC technology and the existing university technology infrastructure
- All technology needs to be upgradable
- Wireless communication
- Recharging stations for 50 computers, 50 tablets, and 50 cellular phones
- Equipment to make espresso, cappuccino, coffee, and whipped drinks
- Food storage capability.
- Food service items.
- Dishwasher and sinks for clean up.
- Confortable furniture including couches, chairs, tables, etc.
NOTE: You are managing only the IT component of this project.
