Assignment #3 – Literature Review/ Annotated Bibliography

Grade: 40 marks

Purpose & Instructions:

You are to proceed with this assignment as new learning, or you can link this assignment to an initiative in your work place, practicum or community volunteer work with Indigenous people.

For Indigenous people’s policy aspects have always controlled and sustained a certain way of life and a particular way to practice social work. You will be asked to identify a policy topic area that you would be interested in developing, enhancing and/or implementing. For example issues for Indigenous youth, Indigenous child & family services policy issues, education policies and practices for Indigenous peoples, over representation of Indigenous peoples in corrections, etc.. Furthermore, begin by looking at the unit themes to inspire you and narrow the area you are focusing on. This assignment will facilitate a process applicable to your style of research and analysis. You will examine your social work interest area and your own personal framework for doing research. Please keep in mind that your topic area must reflect an Indigenous approach that will be effective for Indigenous peoples.

Your literature review could take place in a library, on the Internet, and through personal dialogue with Indigenous social workers. You are to analyze the information through a critical lens and present your findings in a clear and concise way. This assignment will provide you with an opportunity to challenge your existing beliefs, while providing you with a depth of understanding about what it means to do Indigenous research and policy analysis.

Your literature review will consist of a minimum of 6 sources. Three quarters of your literature must be by Indigenous authors, 4 of the 6 sources. The other authors could include allies who are settler colonial/non-indigenous. Only two sources can be re-used from the course materials. Two sources may be the websites you choose to review for Assignment #2. (ref: order number- 81363155- which was done by you writer: 188800) Two of the sources incorporated must be new sources that you researched and may be from academic journal articles, books, personal communication, videos/documentaries or relevant websites. Diversify the various types of sources you research (for example, do not just go to 4 websites).

The page length for this assignment is 6-8 pages maximum, double spaced 12 font, plus cover page and reference page.

Introduction of why you chose this topic and how you see your interest area benefiting Indigenous children, their families/communities. Demonstration of substantive knowledge of the topic area.  /5

Demonstration of your critical analysis of the literature sought out. Ability to synthesize your personal assessment of article contents. Indicate if the literature you found was useful for your topic area, why or why not?
