Harassment and Bullying on Social media
Periodically, students will submit a topical research paper. The topic choice is up to the student but should encompass at least one of the major topics that will be discussed during the weeks surrounding the paper. Papers will be due on the dates specified in the calendar below. The papers should be 5 pages in length, and should include five (5) scholarly references (primarily peer-reviewed journal articles) that demonstrate a further grasp or understanding of the materials than what is covered in class. Because you will be writing four of these papers throughout the term, you may want to look at the topics that are scheduled ahead of time so that you can pick out a topic you are interested in. When papers are submitted, they should be turned in on time, with name, date, and assignment name on the first page (no need for a cover sheet), times new roman size 12, double spaced, numbered pages, and a reference list at the end. You should use the American Sociological Association format guidelines, which are available online, and in this handy and quick reference https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/asa_style/index.html Put differently, 1. Choose a sociological topic (preferably one that interests you). 2. Develop an argument related to that topic, and find journal article references related to the topic and argument. (don’t just describe the research, make an argument about the topic one way or the other and use the research to support the argument you make)3. Support your argument with evidence from journal articles. 4. Turn in electronic copy, paper copy and statement of academic integrity as well. These assignments will be graded using the following sheet:Grade: /25Does this student use at least 5 sources from scholarly journals? _______/5Does this paper meet the minimum and maximum page length requirements? _________(5 pages)/2.5Did this student use ASA formatting correctly and consistently? ___________/2.5Is the argument clear, insightful, and based on the scholarly sources used? __________/10Was this paper well written, edited, and presented neatly (stapled, no spills, easy to read)? __________/5
