Stateless Nation
Geography Report
Due Wednesday, October 8th at the beginning of class
Students (in groups of 1-3 people) will prepare a creative/unique report that provides information on a stateless nation in the world. Below are examples of stateless nations that have relatively large populations- you may select one of these, or you may choose one on your own (but you need to get it approved by me).
At minimum, your report needs to capture this information:
• Population
• Locations (current countries and location in those countries that a majority of the population lives)
• Map
• Language & Religion
• Environment and Natural Resources
• Weather and Climate
• 3 unique characteristics/traditions/cultural events
Beyond the minimum required information above (which is very basic), it is your job as a group to find additional supporting information about this nation- but this information is completely up to you, as long as it helps to share information about this stateless nation. You can report any information that helps tell the story of this nation. You can include historical information, conflicts/wars, cultural information, health/education information, food and drink information, customs and celebrations, clothing, art, music, sports, traditions, currency, economy, family, or any other information that will help others understand this nation that does not have a state to call their own. You are welcome to include information relevant to you and your own career and interests.
Make this report your own, while still including the necessary information. The format and layout of the report is completely up to you- the more creative, the better. You can create a simple written report with information, but a better report will have maps, graphs, and pictures to enhance the text. You are welcome to use bullet-form, or create brochure, etc. Again this is up to the group to decide- but keep in mind that you are trying to share information about a nation, and how you do that is up to you. I will be grading on the effort, information, and layout in the report.
There is not a specific length on this report, because it depends how you layout the information. However, reports that just provide basic information (that can be found on reference websites) will only receive a basic grade. It is the group that goes above and beyond to find information and communicate that information through written/graphic means; that is the group that will receive high marks.
Minimum of 3 sources (no Wikipedia sources) – format – either MLA or APA.
Examples of Stateless Nations: Tamils, Yoruba, Kurds, Igbo, Bakongo, Uyghur, Catalan, Tatars, Scottish, Tibetan, Hmong, Basque, Chechens, Tuaregs, and Mapuche. Again you can choose anyone of these or your own, but you need to get approval for your own.
