Paper instruction

Responses : You will write one short paper for each week of the course for which I have assigned reading. These are due the day before we discuss the
readings in class. For example, your response to the Sellin and Wacquant readings is due on September 14. In these three page response papers, you will
analyze and evaluate authors’ claims to demonstrate thorough reading and critical understanding of the text. Your summary should be no longer than one
paragraph; your response should stay grounded in the text; you must support all of your claims. Each response is worth 6 points.

First paragraph: Start your response with a sentence that states what the two readings have in common. Next, demonstrate that you understand the main
points—both substantive and theoretical—of each article. To do this, write one to two sentences for each article stating the thesis of that article.
Finally, end this first paragraph with a sentence that tells me what you are going to argue in this response. This integration and summary should take no
more than one short paragraph and is worth 2 points.

Body: The body of the response should be an exposition of your argument that stays grounded in the text. Remember to include a conclusion paragraph that
restates your argument. The body of your response is worth 3 points.

You can gain the remaining point through handing in a well-written, well-organized paper!

All written work should be in 11-point Arial font, have 1” left, right, top, and bottom margins, and be double-spaced.

Please follow the paper instruction and please do not just summarize two articles!
