PATHWAY DISSERTATION ASSESSMENT BRIEF
The DIS6A1 module gives you the opportunity to complete a significant project (a dissertation) within your area of specialism and directly builds on the Pathway Core module by developing the dissertation research proposal into a proper piece of research and consolidating your pathway learning. To be enrolled on the DIS6A1 module you have passed your Pathway Core module in full, enabling you to a solid grounding in both: your pathway discipline and the steps you need to undertake to complete the research. The results obtained in this module are double weighted when it comes to degree classification, which means it counts twice when your classification is calculated.
During the writing process, you continue to be supported by a dissertation supervisor for guidance but you need to demonstrate your ability to work independently and critically. The main aim of the module is to demonstrate your ability as self-directed, independent learner. This module gives you the opportunity to apply your prior, and on-going knowledge and experience to produce a substantial piece of academic research. Primary research is desirable but not essential in this case.
During the course of this module you will be required to submit a:
- Draft Dissertation (for formative feedback)
You are encouraged to meet fortnightly with your supervisor throughout the module and to maintain an effective communication and feedback flow, to allow you to progress through the stages of the dissertation production. At the start of week 7, you will be expected to have produced a substantial draft to enable your supervisor to provide comprehensive formative feedback, giving you the opportunity to respond to it for the final submission. You should submit drafts of Chapters 2, 3 and 4 for formative feedback (see below for structure of Final Dissertation)
- Final Dissertation (for summative % grade assessment)
You will be formally assessed on your final submitted dissertation of 8,000 words (or 8,500 for students undertaking the 22-credit module which includes the 500 word Reflective Statement). Only documents submitted to Blackboard under the final dissertation submission link by the given deadline will be assessed and graded. Drafts will not be accepted in place of missed final submission. Your submission will consist of 1 electronic copy via Blackboard. No hard copy submissions are required or accepted.
FORMATTING/GENERAL:
- Headers (containing short title of dissertation) and Footers (containing Student Name, Module Code, and Page Numbering) are required.
