First of all Anne’s and Harry’s boss Steve should have put a stop to the perceived EEO violations against Anne. Also the rumors of an affair would be filed as discrimination of a protected class. If Anne felt upset because someone has been spreading rumors about her. She is in the right to threaten to file a lawsuit. For a situation such as this, there is not enough information to show a discrimination of a protected class. However; the employee is a Hispanic female and therefore a member of a protected class. Based on Title VII of the Civil Rights Act and the Equal Pay Act the employee may be subjected to discrimination.

Based on the assumption that the rumors about her by a coworker are due to her sex, the she could file the lawsuit due to harassment. Harassment is disparate treatment based on the employee’s sex. The employee would need to show that the harassment was discriminatory, harmful and unwelcomed and allowed by the employer (Walsh, 2013).

We have learned the metaphor of psychic prison as describing being ensnared by one’s own thoughts, ideas, and beliefs (Morgan, 2006). Based on the reading, Steve was caught up in his own psychic prison in the fact that because Harry had been around so long and was considered a “Good old boy’ (Bolman & Deal, 2013), he let things slide and reach a point of conflict.

I love the metaphor “psychic prison.” I would have to admit I find myself there when thinking of how we did things in the old way versus the new. The whole concept of psychic prison forces us into a behavior that is unacceptable.
