In this milestone, you will submit the annotated bibliography, which will help in the completion of your final project. The annotated bibliography requires you to assemble a list of at least three credible sources that you may potentially use in the final research essay. For each annotation, you will summarize the source’s information, evaluate its overall credibility, and state how it will help support your persuasive thesis. Your completed document should apply either APA or MLA standards.

When engaged in the research process, it is easy to feel overwhelmed by the amount of information you are taking in. Sometimes writers begin to lose track of how the content they are reading will be helpful in supporting the claims they make in their papers or in addressing their research question. The annotated bibliography will assist you in organizing and identifying the sources you may use in your final research paper. It will also help you to determine which sources will be useful in supporting your argument and/or counterargument. Please clearly identify your research question and thesis statement at the top of your paper to help maintain your focus. At least three resources are required for this assignment.
An annotated bibliography is a list of citations to books, articles, and documents. Each citation is followed by a brief descriptive and evaluative paragraph (usually under 150 words): the annotation. Annotations are descriptive and critical; they expose the author’s point of view, clarity and appropriateness of expression, and authority. For each annotation, include 1) a summary of the main points in your own words, 2) evaluation of the source’s credibility, and 3) how this source is relevant to your topic.
Resources Choose those works that provide a variety of perspectives on your topic. You will need to include at least three scholarly resources. Refer to sections 1.26 through 1.28 within the interactive eLearning material for information on how to find reputable sources. Also, review sections 2.25 through 2.31 for an example annotated bibliography and a guide to creating one yourself. You should consider both the format and the content of the example.

Include the following in your annotated bibliography:
State your thesis and research question. This may seem like a difficult task. First, you will want to develop a research topic. Click here to review a tutorial on how to develop a research topic. Once you have a topic, you will want to form this into a thesis statement. A thesis statement needs to make an arguable claim about your chosen topic. Click here to review a lesson on thesis statements and how to create them. Once you have your thesis, it will be easy to form it into a research question. Make sure to include both at the beginning of your annotated bibliography. Include a citation entry (in either MLA or APA) for each of your sources. Refer to section 2.26 and 2.26A in your interactive eLearning material for information on citations. Provide an annotation for each entry which includes the following: Under each entry you will include an annotation of the source. As described above the annotation is much more than a summary of the source. Each annotation should be around 150 words. 1. Summarize the main point(s). You will first want to summarize the main point(s) of each source in your own words. Make sure to focus on what each source says about your research question or thesis. 2. Why is this a credible source? Once you have summarized the main point(s), you will want to discuss why the source is credible. Talk about the author’s credentials/background in the field, where you found the source (was it from a long-standing journal, a textbook, etc.), and any other information that proves that this source is credible.
- Relevance: Finally, you want to close each annotation by discussing how the article is relevant to the research paper. Make sure that you directly relate the information in each resource back to your thesis statement. What are you hoping to prove by utilizing this resource?
Guidelines for Submission: Your completed document should apply either APA or MLA standards (your choice, but use one consistent standard throughout). You will use your selected documentation style for all remaining written assignments in the course. The document should be in Microsoft Word format.
