After reading chapter 8 of Teaching Adult ESL and reviewing Excerpt 1 and 2 on page 232 of the text, write a 200-300 word response to the following questions:

a. Which unit is designed for the beginning learner? How can you tell?
b. Does the material build on learners’ knowledge of spoken language and build literacy from there?
c. Which activities in the units provide practice in basic literacy development (copying letters and words, phonemic awareness, spelling)?
d. Is the vocabulary supported with clear, unambiguous visual support?
