Assessment Task
You are required to develop a brochure website for the business case outlined below.
Business Case
Patrick Farrell, a Chartered Physiotherapist, owns a thriving physiotherapy business in Dublin. The -business was established in 1998 and up until now, business has come from word- of-mouth. Patrick has decided it’s time to promote his business online. He hopes to attract new clients and provide information about his clinic and its services to current clients also. He has asked you to design a brochure-style website for his physiotherapy business.
The clinic provides a variety of services including physiotherapy, acupuncture, sports injury treatment, osteopathy, exercise therapy, massage therapy, orthotics and dry needling. The majority of appointments last between 30 and 40 minutes.
The opening hours are Monday – Friday 8:00am – 7:30pm. Appointments are available on Saturdays by request only. Free car parking is available.
Patrick Farrell has wonderful support staff that include:
- Gemma Maguire (MISCP) fellow chartered physiotherapist and currently treats sports injuries.
- Emma Jones (MISCP) also chartered physiotherapist, graduated from UCD in 2010.
- Kay Nolan (ACSM) personal trainer with over 12 years’ experience.
- Laura Boland clinic manager and financial controller.
- Emily Farrell office administrator working mainly in the Ranelagh clinic.
Patrick’s business is a member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists. It was a finalist for the 2014 Irish Healthcare Centre Awards. These should be highlighted on the site.
The following deliverables are required:
- A 6-8 page website to provide a solution to satisfy the business case outlined above.
- The site should be HTML5, CSS3 jQuery/JavaScript standard compliant, fully tested and working in all major browsers.
- The website should have a consistent professional appearance with appropriate layout, fonts and colour scheme.
- Graphics and other media should be used appropriately.
- The navigation system should be clear and move the visitor seamlessly through the site.
- Content provided should include:
- A brief description about the services and their prices provided in the clinic.
- A brief profile of the staff that work in the clinic to reassure customers that staff are both qualified and experienced.
- Some testimonials from his clients should be evident.
- Links to other websites that contain useful information for clients.
- A FAQ page.
- A contact form.
- A site map.
- The clinic is covered by all major health insurers including: VHI, Aviva and Laya Healthcare.
- The website should demonstrate best practice and adhere to good design principles and current web standards.
Report
Produce a report (800-1000 words) detailing:
- How you would select a web host.
- How you would optimize your web site so that it would be easy to find using a Search Engine such as Google.
- A short reflection (150 words) on what you have learned through the process of developing this site and what you would do differently if you had to undertake such a project again.
Submission
Submit a compressed folder containing your project files and report to Moodle. You are also required to use an FTP client to transfer your website to the web host provided to you. Failure to follow above procedures will result in the assignment being returned to you unmarked.
Important note: It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that the website can be properly viewed from the storage medium submitted. Please ensure this by testing it at a second computer (i.e. a computer other than where you built the site). You must also keep a backup of your site.
