Step 1
Report: Report how Obama conveys charisma in his speech. Do you agree that he is charismatic? Why?
Step 2
Relate to theory: Briefly describe what the Bolden at al. and Bush and Glover readings say about leadership models and theories. Do they discuss charisma? Is there anywhere in those models and theories that charisma might fit? Is charisma a leadership model?
Step 3
Reason. Think about it, analyse it, critique it. Look for alternative perspectives
Go back to the blog post you made in the Obama blog.
In your Obama blog entry, what did you see as the balance between Obama’s personality and presentation and the implications of what he said? Did your blog entry focus on Obama’s charisma and other communication skills? There are six sets of question that you were asked to discuss in your blog entry: to what extent did you write about the implications of the speech for classroom teachers, for university lecturers or community college teachers? Did you write praising his speech or did you analyse the contents? Would you write a different entry now that you have read the theories? What would be different? Why?
What else might a leader need beyond charisma? Could somebody without charisma be a good leader? Are there any leadership models that do not call for charisma? For good communication skills?

Reconstruct. Apply what you’ve just learned to help you look at things differently: Consider how you might apply the distinction between a communication skill and a leadership model to other situations
