Your final paper will be an extensive research project on resolving an ethical dilemma in the domain of leadership that is publicly known (you can choose a case relevant to your field of study or interest) by applying the ethical leadership practices you have learned in this class. 1.      Final Paper Prospectus (10% of the final grade)

You will submit a prospectus (500-750 words) for your final paper on Week 9 to help guide and ensure a quality paper. The purpose of the prospectus is to get you thinking about your paper; provide you an opportunity to organize your thinking into a coherent framework, and get feedback early to make sure your final paper will be on target. This feedback on your prospectus will provide you information on the caliber of your current work previewing your performance on the final policy paper.

 

Your prospectus should be between 500-750 words, and include:

• A title and a brief description of the ethical dilemma you chose.
• The ethical theories/approaches that you think relevant to the case and your take on the issue: This is your main argument/thesis.
• A review of the literature, how it relates to your issue, and where you intend to ‘go’ i.e.
  1. A working [annotated] bibliography/types of PRINT resources including a summary of the item and the main points [i.e. topic, author point of view, and the main argument(s)]
  2. Notes on what information you still need to collect
  3. An outline of how you intend to ‘get there’ i.e.
     • what you will include and how you will step through the issue you will cover – or the outline of questions you will work through [methodology] to test your ides/assumptions

Final Paper Assignment (25% of the final grade)

The paper extends over the last 6 weeks of the course and will consist of TWO submitted components:

Early Submission – You will have the opportunity to submit an ‘early draft’ of your final paper at Week 11. This ‘early submission’ will allow you to get feedback and current grade on your paper with suggestions on what you need to do to improve your grade.

You can opt to keep the ‘current’ grade – or you may resubmit the paper noting how and where you have responded to the feedback you have received.

Final Submission – This is your finished and polished end product that is due Week 15 of the semester. It should:

• demonstrate that you have addressed any issues or comments received previously from me on your prospectus
• if you submitted early it should address any issues or comments noted
• citations should be formatted in MLA or APA
• be approximately 1800-2400 words in length and includes a[n]:
  1. Title Page with your name and course information.
  2. Abstract of 100 – 150 words that explains your topic and main points.
  3. Introduction that includes your ethical leadership case/thesis/hypothesis and core argument.
  4. Clear description of the ethical dilemma with a discussion of its public reception
  5. Critical discussion of how the dilemma was handled.
  6. Critical discussion of ethical theories that might have been used in handling the dilemma.
  7. Discussion of the pros and cons of the way it was resolved.
  8. Explanation of how you would resolve the dilemma if you were the leader in charge: you need to identify and defend how your position aligns with or argues against literature.
  9. Discussion of the relevant implications of your conclusion or findings in terms of the ethical dilemma in question, as well as the thinkers, theories, or positions your paper engages with.
  10. Conclusion

• ALL submissions should be uploaded as Word documents to the appropriate dropbox folder in ANGEL
• NO extensions or LATE submissions will be accepted
• Websites do NOT count as sources unless they are PRIMARY sources such as speeches, ethics codes of institutions or organizations, etc. In those instances, you must cite and include the url.
