Case Study Analysis: Amazon.com

  • Sahlman, W. A., & Katz, L. E. (1998, October 22). Amazon.com: Going public.

Prepare a financial ratio analysis.

Review the case study then address the following issues and questions. There is a “help” spreadsheet that can be used to assist in completing the financial analysis and in organizing and summarizing the issues. Spreadsheet tables can be pasted into a Microsoft Word document to highlight and summarize the main issues, but you should also include text discussion within your document that expands on the summary tables you present.

Case study analysis:

  1. Describe the business model of Amazon. Compare Amazon to Barnes and Noble using the matrices appearing within the help spreadsheet as a guide.
  1. Should Amazon go public? Why or why not? You may use the help spreadsheet matrix as a template for emphasizing your main points.
  1. Complete the valuation model presented within the help file. Describe the nature of the model along with the results assuming the discount rate at 15%, 20% and 25%. Discuss why this valuation is important and which stakeholders are especially concerned about this metric.

Format:
Present your case study analysis in Microsoft Word document format and the financial analysis in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet format.
All written assignments and responses should follow APA rules for attributing sources.
