Mission and vision statements play three critical roles: (1) communicate the purpose of the organization to stakeholders (2) inform strategy development, and (3) develop the measurable goals and objectives by which to gage the success of the organization’s strategy.

Without a mission or vision statement, a business cannot define its objectives, nor can it establish the strategies for success. The company must constantly manage all business activity so that those activities help the organization stay on target with its mission and vision statements. The mission and vision statement are necessary so that employees and others who have an interest in the business understand the direction the organization is moving in and how it intends to get there. The vision statement tell every one the intentions of the business. Ex. To provide the citizens with safe and timely travel over not only the state highways but also the roads and water ways within the state. The mission statement is to maintain the state roads, bridges, railways and water way so that the citizens have useful and adequate methods of transportation at all times. The mission and vision statement are carried out by the strategic management of all activities that pertain to all modes of transportation in our state. They have a definite relationship and one without the others would cause a disconnect in the effectiveness of the organization…….. …………I would agree, the mission and vision are the central keys to the strategic plan. Our organization demonstrates the elements of learning by exposing in the mission statement exactly what the organizations intended purpose is and further exposing the employees role in the process in their SF3 or Job Description. The employee are given additional training in areas that will help them to complete their job in keeping with the guideline of the organization. We also have management meetings where we are allowed to make areas of concern known and obtain information from our counter part on way to resolve the issues. The organization also gathers external information from consultants and vendors that are used in conjunction with practices already in place to further enhance or operations. Employees are allowed to contribute to the procedures by different activities such as periodic on line survey and meeting with divisions designed to question employees on how the practices of the organization work for them and area that they feel need to be adjusted. Employees are asked for suggestion on how to tweak procedure so that they work better for them……. …….
