Presentation
• Must be submitted by 11:30pm ET on Day 1 of Unit 10
• Evaluation: 20% of term mark
Objectives:
• To develop students’ skills to analyze the theories of Interior Design
• To increase students’ awareness of projects that connect and inspire Social Responsibility
• To develop students’ critical analysis and research skills in the field of interior design
• To communicate students’ ideas orally and in writing
Description:
Extending the Research Paper, students are required to create a 10-minute visual presentation
highlighting the key elements of their paper. Each student will create either a narrated PowerPoint (for
online students) or give an in-class presentation with PowerPoint (on-campus students) communicating
their research and critical analysis of their chosen theories and design examples.
Instructions for on campus delivery:
1. After considering the feedback on your Research Paper, you are to share what you’ve learned
with the class in an oral presentation, supported by a detailed, creative and informative
PowerPoint slide deck.
a. As this will be the visual aid to your overall presentation, carefully consider how to
organize the information on this slide deck so that it supports your verbal presentation.
2. Your presentation and accompanying visuals will include the following information:
a. An introduction outlining the goal of your presentation
b. Definition of each theory you will be discussing
c. An analysis of FOUR of your chosen buildings/interiors. For each building/interior
explore the following information:
i. Brief introduction about the building/interior
ii. Building’s function
iii. Brief introduction about the context of the building (eg. Location, Climate)
iv. Brief introduction about the people, culture, and religion in the locale it was
built
v. Relate your spaces to your supporting theories
vi. Relate your spaces to Social Responsibility
vii. Relate your spaces to Aesthetics
d. A concluding slide summing up your presentation
e. A bibliography and image list using proper APA citation
3. With regards to the oral presentation, this will be a 10-minute presentation to the class:
a. You will be presenting this to your professor and peers in Unit 10/Week 11
b. As a rule of thumb, you should allow a slide for each 45-60 seconds of speaking, so
between 10 and 15 slides.
i. Longer per slide, and you risk losing the interest of your audience
ii. Remember that you ought not to be reading what is on the slides – this is what
is commonly called ‘death by PowerPoint’

iii. Your spoken text should contain more words than your slides – use those for
what they are best suited: images, interest and engagement. Keep your
audience interested in what you are saying with slides containing solid but brief
points, well chosen graphics, and intelligent design.
c. You are required to create a hands-on activity for your peers to be completed within the
time frame of your presentation that helps to articulate your chosen theories and/or
Social Responsibility.
d. It is important that you adhere to the time requirements.
e. You must be prepared and leave 2 minutes for Questions from the class.
